Steering Committee

Members of the Steering Committee

The Steering Committee shall consist of the Vice President responsible for doctoral programmes, the Director, the Secretary and the Academic Coordinators of the programmes. Also, the representatives of the institutions and entities referred to in Article 2.2 may also be members of the Doctoral School’s Steering Committee, depending on the agreement that has to be subscribed in order to define the terms of that cooperation, the Director or Manager or service and a graduate student as a representative of the doctoral programmes .

1.The Steering Committee shall meet at least once per semester in regular session or in extraordinary session for as many calls as required.

2. The Steering Committee shall perform the functions relating to the organization and management of the Doctoral School . In particular, the missions of the Steering Committee are:

a) Prepare the Internal Rules of Procedures and raise them to the University of Alicante’s Governing Council for their approval.

b) Approve the guidelines for action and establish the School organization criteria in the scope of its duties.

c) Establish the committees and subcommittees required for the the normal operation of the School and take part in them. In any case, at least one commission on excellence will be appointed, made up of the Director, the Secretary and the coordinators of doctoral programmes with excellence award.

d) Identify and report on the international and inter-university doctoral programmes.

e) Propose the granting of Special Doctoral Awards to the Governing Council.

f) Propose the appointment of Doctors Honoris Causa by the University of Alicante to the Governing Council.

g) Any other missions attributed by the statutes, rules and regulations concerned. 


Director

Ángeles Sirvent Ramos (Decision of the University Governing Board of 27 May 2016)

1. The appointment of the Director corresponds to the University President. The Director must be a researcher member of the UA staff, who should have at least three periods of research activity recognised in accordance with Royal Decree 1086/1989 .

2. The role of the Director includes:

a) Perform the regular management duties of the School, implementing the resolutions of the Steering Committee.

b) Represent the School.

c) Perform or ensure the implementation of the agreements.

d) Preside over the official events of the School, except for the legal precedence envisaged by the laws and regulations.

e) Ensure the compliance of the agreements and resolutions of the governing and representatives bodies of the University of Alicante.

f) Lead the administrative and budgetary management and all the School services.

g) Any other missions attributed by the statutes, rules and regulations concerned.   

Secretary

Carmen Pire Galiana (Decision of the University Governing Board of 27 May 2016)

1.The appointment of the Secretary shall correspond to the University President, on the proposal of the Vice President responsible for doctoral programmes. The Secretary must be a researcher member of the UA staff, who should have at least two periods of research activity recognised in accordance with Royal Decree 1086/1989.

2. The role of the Secretary includes:

a) Assume the secretary of the School and the Steering Committee, as well as of any other body within the same scope established by the statutes or regulations, by recording the minutes of its sessions.

b) Summon the meetings of the Steering Committee at the request of the Vice President responsible for doctoral programmes.

c) Attest to the agreements and resolutions of the School’s governing and representative bodies.

d) Receive and secure the records and files and the access to them.

e) Receive and keep the Doctoral Activities Documents, projects and theses.

f) Keep the seal of the School .

g) Ensure the organization of the School ceremonies and the protocol compliance.

h) Issue certificates.

i) Process registration and transfer of records.

j) Perform the functions delegated by the Director.

k) Ensure the publication of resolutions and decisions of the School’s governing bodies.   

Coordinators of the Doctoral Programmes

Members of the Steering Committee

Coordinators of doctoral programmes shall be appointed by the University President, according to the provisions of Article 8.4 of Decree 99 /2011, on the proposal of the proponent body, or by agreement between the university presidents in the case of joint doctoral programmes with other universities, or as shown in the agreement with other institutions when a doctoral collaborating programme is developed.

The Coordinator must be a relevant researcher, have supervised at least two doctoral theses and have at least two periods of research activity recognised in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 1086/1989.

In the case of doctoral programmes organised jointly with other universities or through collaboration with other agencies, centres, institutions and entities with R&D+i activities, both public or private, national or foreign, when researchers hold a position that does not result in the application of that evaluation criterion, they  must prove at least one of the following merits:

a) Have at least three periods of research activity recognised in accordance with Royal Decree 1086/1989.

b) Have at least two periods of research activity and have been the main researcher in R&D+i projects from public announcements.

c) Have at least two periods of research activity and being a member of an evaluation committee of a recognised official evaluation agency.

2. The functions of the Coordinators of doctoral programmes:

a) Direct and coordinate the activities of the doctoral programme and ensure continuity and fulfillment of the objectives, ensuring that the programme is developed with the highest degree of efficiency, quality and success.

b) Propose the composition of the Academic Committee of the programme, preside over it, and execute and enforce the resolutions adopted.

c) Attend the meetings of the Steering Committee and the committees on which they sit with the right to speak in debate but without a vote and contribute to normal operation.

d) Represent the doctoral programme at the School’s Steering Committee and ensure that the School’s agreements relating to the programme are met.

e) Ensure that the members of the doctoral programme are informed of all matters relating to the activities thereof that could affect them.
