International joint supervision allows PhD candidates to prepare and defend their theses in collaboration with other non-Spanish universities in order to get their doctoral degree certificate from both universities.
This type of PhD thesis requires a specific international supervision agreement between the UA and a non-Spanish university.
Check this link for full information.
If there is no agreement with the partner university (see current agreements), the teaching and research staff of the University of Alicante interested in making a proposal for an agreement will draw up a proposal for an agreement. For such a purpose, there is a model agreement which, after having agreed the terms and conditions with the partner university, will be sent completed to the Agreements Office following this protocol..
The annual fees and where to pay them by the PhD candidate will be established on the agreement or annex to the agreement. In any case, the administration fee for the opening of the student record, the university card fee and the insurance fee will be paid to the UA.
In the case of having to pay those fees at the other university, PhD candidates should contact the Doctoral School for a fee waiver at the UA using this form.
Both at which university the PhD oral examination will be held and the appointment of the members of the PhD examination panel will be stated in the agreement or annex to the agreement.
When a PhD degree is taught jointly with other universities (inter-university degrees), the joint supervision agreements that may be signed only affect the student of the University of Alicante with no effect on the rest of the students of the other universities.
