Royal Decree 99/2011, of 28 January, article 15. International Mention for the Doctoral Diploma.
1. The Doctoral Diploma may include the mention of «International Doctoral Diploma» on its front side, provided that candidates meet the following requirements:
a) That, during the training period required for obtaining the Doctoral diploma, the doctoral student completed a minimum stay of three months out of Spain in an institution of higher education or in an renowned research centre, studying or doing research work. Both the stay and activities have to be endorsed by the thesis supervisor and authorised by the Academic Committee, which will be incorporated into the Doctoral Activities Document.
b) That part of the doctoral thesis had been drafted and submitted in one of the usual languages for scientific communication in its field of knowledge, other than any of the official languages in Spain. Se deberá optar por la redacción en una de estas opciones:
This requirement shall not be applied when the stays, reports and experts come from a Spanish-speaking country, permitiéndose en este caso la redacción íntegra en castellano o valenciano.
c) That the thesis had been reported by a minimum of two experts belonging to a non-Spanish higher education institution or research centre.
d) That, at least one PhD expert from a non-Spanish higher education institution or research centre, other than the person responsible for the stay referred to in paragraph a), had been part of the evaluator of the doctoral thesis examination board
If the documents were issued in a language other than Spanish, Valencian or English, a copy including a sworn translation into one of the three languages should submitted along with the original document.
